Between 1964 and 1972, the construction of the new railway station of the Polish State Railways was carried out. The building is considered to be the best example in Poland of the trend in architecture known as Brutalism. A quarter of buildings in the area of 3 Maja, Młyńska and Stawowa Streets was demolished for the construction of the main building.
It was from the façade of one of the demolished buildings at ul. 3 Maja 28 that the PUSS IN BOOTS invited customers to buy children’s and teenagers’ shoes. The huge figure, more than 5 metres high, was perfectly visible not only from the Wolności and Market Square, but even from the Silesian Theatre.
Almost vis a vis, the façade of the building at the junction of 3 Maja and Stawowa streets was adorned with a neon advertisement for the children’s clothing shop – MARYSIA.
