The tenement house on the corner of Holtzestrasse and Sedanstrasse, that is today’s Mariacka and Mielęckiego streets, was built in 1901. From the beginning, the ground floor of the building was dedicated to commercial activities. Even before the Second World War, it housed an elegant delicatessen. The name “Golden Horn” (Złoty róg) appeared in the 1950s, although initially in a slightly different location – on the corner of today’s Staromiejska and Dyrekcyjna streets. Only later was the premises moved to its final location. The stylised neon sign, which was placed above the entrance to the premises, probably also dates from this period. On the sides were smaller lighting elements: an abbreviation of the name of the deli’s owner, PSS Społem, and decorative references to the premises’ product range. After the change of regime in Poland, private owners with varying degrees of luck tried to continue the best traditions of delicatessens.
